Americas security SI market to exceed $30B by 2016, IMS says

A new report from IMS Research forecasts the Americas market for security systems integration will exceed $30 billion in 2016, and will grow at an average rate of more than 7 percent from 2011 until then.
 
The report, which focuses on the installation and maintenance of security systems, finds that the U.S. is forecast to remain the largest market in the Americas throughout this time. However, faster growth is forecast for Latin America countries such as Brazil.

Wide-area eagle eyes for German football stadiums

German football clubs Borussia M?nchengladbach and Bayer 04 Leverkusen started the jubilee season (50 years of German Bundesliga) with new cameras, intended to ensure increased security in the stadiums. Equipment, installation and service are provided by surveillance specialist Dallmeier electronic and IT service provider Stemmer.

New terminal at Dubai International deploys iris and facial recognition

AOptix, a technology innovation company applying optics to transform identity verification and wireless communications, announced that in the first phase of deployment AOptix automated iris and face recognition systems will be installed at 100 immigration smart counters and Smart Gates at Dubai International Airport's Terminal 3, the world's largest airport terminal. The systems are being integrated and deployed by emaratech, a major regional systems integrator for government, border control, aviation security and electronic identification systems.
 
The AOptix systems will authenticate iris and face images for travelers who enter or leave the UAE through Terminal 3. US golf club secured by cloud-based access control

Brivo Systems, cloud applications for security management, announced that the Bridgestone Golf headquarters in Covington, GA, has deployed the Brivo ACS WebService cloud-based solution to improve safety and security. Southeastern Security Professionals, LLC. (SSP), based in Suwanee, GA, is the dealer and installer for this project.

This has often been done by using traditional procedures such as manual recording from mobile scaffolding. But these methods can only file cracks that have been detected visually by the people inspecting the tunnel surface. Smiths Detection opens X-ray systems manufacturing facility in Malaysia

Smiths Detection has opened a major new manufacturing plant for X-ray baggage scanners, in Malaysia. Establishing this facility will help to expand sales of its advanced screening systems in the fast-growing markets of south-east Asia, notably for aviation security.

Pilot production at the 130,000 square foot site in the Malaysian city of Johor Bahru has started and most of the space is expected to be occupied within 18 months as the workforce gradually increases to around 170.
