Nigeria Customs and Border Deploys Smiths Detection Screening


Smiths Detection announces a multi-million Euro order from Nigeria for its dual view high energy cargo scanner which includes a state-of-the-art material discrimination system.
The order placed by Global Scansystems is part of the Destination Inspection Programme (DIP), established by the Nigerian Ministry of Finance for the Customs Authorities of Nigeria. Only the day before student riots had broken out in the capital due to increased student loans. Although the riots had started as peaceful, a section of people were increasing tension within the crowds and damage and vandalism had started.

With a busy weekend looming he had to take immediate action. India's Inaugural Formula One Race Deploys AMG Transmission


AMG systems announces that they have supplied their AMG transmission solution for the new Indian Formula One circuit which hosted the inaugural Indian Formula One Grand Prix on October 30 2011. The prestigious project has seen India establish itself on the map of Formula One with an investment of around $215 million, thus creating a circuit on 5.14 km over an area of 875 acres. Infinova to Acquire March Networks for $88.2 Million


March Networks, a global provider of intelligent IP video solutions, announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement (the "Arrangement Agreement") with Infinova (Canada) and Shenzhen Infinova., a company listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, majority owned by U.S. shareholders and with U.S. headquarters in Monmouth Junction, N.J. Pursuant to the Arrangement Agreement, Infinova will acquire, through a statutory plan of arrangement, all of the issued and outstanding common shares of March Networks Corporation for $4.89 per share in cash (the "Arrangement"). The total value of the transaction is approximately $88.2 million. The Arrangement is subject to approvals by the shareholders of March Networks and Shenzhen Infinova, approvals of applicable regulatory bodies and the Ontario court, and other customary closing conditions. Slovenian Laboratory Observes Rare Amphibian in HD

The Tular Cave Laboratory in Slovenia (Jamski laboratorij Tular) was established in 1960 by Marko Aljancic, a biologist specializing in subterranean species, who populated the laboratory with the European cave salamander. The blind amphibian dwells in the subterranean waters endemic to the Dinaric Karst, where groundwater has carved underground limestone caverns. It spans from East Italy through Slovenia, over coastal Croatia to Herzegovina and part of Bosnia. Read more 

UK Historic Town Embraces Modern Public Surveillance


Tamworth is located 23 kilometres northeast of Birmingham. It has a resident population of approximately 80,000 but also attracts a large number of visitors wishing to enjoy the Town's restaurants, shops and tourist attractions including Tamworth Castle. The Council considers the security of its residents to be of paramount importance and has also looked to provide a safe environment for people who visit the Town Center. There is therefore a zero tolerance attitude to anti-social behaviour, vandalism and theft. With this in mind, the Council invested in a CCTV system some years ago which could monitor activity 24/7 within the Town Centrer. The existing CCTV system comprised 77 cameras which were all wired directly to the Town's control room where they were recorded for twelve hours a day on analogue VCRs. Read more
